They support music services, multiroom playback, and stereo pairing (depending on the model), making them a reliable option for expanding or maintaining older Sonos setups.

While newer models like the Era series offer updated connectivity (Bluetooth, line-in, and improved acoustics), the Play series remains a key part of the Sonos evolution—focused on simplicity, reliability, and consistent sound quality.

The Sonos Play is a portable wireless speaker designed to combine powerful sound with the freedom to listen anywhere. Its three Class-H digital amplifiers power two angled tweeters and a dedicated midwoofer, creating a detailed and immersive presentation with clear high frequencies, stereo separation, and rich bass from a compact portable design.

Built for flexible listening, the Sonos Play supports both Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, allowing it to stream over a home network or connect directly to a Bluetooth device. Apple AirPlay 2 support adds another convenient way to stream music from compatible Apple devices, while the Sonos ecosystem enables multi-room playback throughout the home.

A 4,800 mAh battery provides up to 24 hours of continuous playback, while the included charging base makes it easy to keep the speaker ready for use. The speaker is also designed for outdoor use, with an IP56 rating and a portable form factor that makes it easy to move between indoor and outdoor environments.

Automatic Trueplay adjusts the sound according to the speaker's surroundings, while the far-field microphone array supports responsive voice control and acoustic tuning. USB-C connectivity can also be used for charging or connecting an audio source with the optional Line-In Adapter, giving the Sonos Play the versatility of both a portable speaker and a fully integrated Sonos system.
